if you have a long haired cat and do not have the time etc to properly groom this cat, and the fur is matting. shave it. matted fur is very painful. i have actually seen cats with their front leg matted to the chest and the owner was totally unaware of the pain her pet was in. just thought the cat was grumpy due to age. matted cat fur hides and promotes skin infections and parasites. don't feel bad shave the kitty,and you may actually see a new and happier personality emerge. also, hair can actually cause deadly impactions so its just one more reason to get rid of that fur. your couch will also thank you.
