What kind of cake to use with ice cream?

I tried to make a chocolate ice cream cake and i used a packaged cake mix but the flavor of the cake over powered the chocolate ice cream. I want to try to make a er pecan ice cream cake but i dont know what kind of cake i should use to not over power the ice cream flavor and wont fall apart if i pick it up. Thanks!
