DRUM HELP! Snare won't stop ringing?

okay, so i have my drum kit, but whenever my band and i are playing, for example, my bist has a part where it is only him. My snare drum keeps ringing even though i'm not playing, which is really annoying because i just want to hear the b part and i know it doesn't happen for pro's or anyone during live shows. any suggestions would be great, thanks.
