97 caravan ecu/ecm help needed--my mechanic says this van needs a ecm--i bought a used one at a salvage yard?

now i hear conflicting reports---parts guy says used ones seldom work even after reflashing coz of specs dont match the vehicle----another guy says as long as same year and vehicle reflashing should work
