Shoulder-length, thick, fine hair?

My hair is a little longer than shoulder-lengthed and very very thick but also fine. I have a lot of hair so it is hard to do anything with it because it it heavy! Any advice on good hairdos for school that will hold!? And no matter how much hairspray i put in it, it will not stay because it is too heavy!
