What was tulip mania?

Tulips became so popular on their introduction to the Netherlands in the early 17th century that the the trade in tulip bulbs led to enormous prices for them,particularly on advance contracts for delivery of bulbs at the end of each year.In early 1637 the bubble burst,and the value of tulip bulbs plummeted,ruining many investors.
